My Affairs with Tonto Dikeh and Yvonne Nelson – Iyanya

Iyanya Mbuk, the first winner of MTN Project Fame, tells BAYO ADETU about his career and other issues

You started your career as an R&B singer but delved into Afro pop after four years. Why the change?

I decided to change because at some point, I was not being heard. As a musician in Nigeria, you should be able to study your environment and give them what they want if you want to be relevant. I was taking my time doing R&B but only a few people were listening. When you have only a few listening, you can’t really make an impact. The international audience won’t go crazy about you singing R&B. They would go crazy about what they’ve never heard before; even about songs they don’t understand the meaning.

You popularised the Etighi dance in your hitsong, Kukere. Where did the dance originate from?

It’s from Calabar, Akwa Ibom State where I come from.

What is the meaning of Kukere?

It means don’t worry, don’t think.

Why did you feature D’Banj in the remix of the song and what was it like working with him?

I chose D’Banj because he is my role model. D’Banj has proven that Nigerians can rule the world. I travel out and I see the impact that he has all over the world; I’m not just saying London or America but everywhere. D’Banj is a big brand. Working with him has not been as hard as people think it would be. As big as he is, he is very willing to listen to me. Everything that he did on the track, he wanted to have my own opinion, he wanted me to be comfortable with it. Working with him was a blessing and it really showed me a whole lot of things.

Who are the artistes under your record label?

Triple MG Records is owned by two people; me and my manager, Ubi Franklin. For now, we have just pioneer artistes –Emma Nyra and Bassey Okon.

Why did you decide to start your own record label?

It helps you focus and when you own a record label, you make the decisions. When you attain success, you’d be grateful and appreciate your efforts and when failure comes, you’d also face it like a man. Also, I feel like I’ve been around for a while and it is only fair that I reap the fruits of my labour. I don’t want somebody from nowhere to tell me what to do.

There is a rumour that Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson has accused you of cheating on her. Is that true?

She didn’t mention my name, so I don’t know anything about it. I’ve never told anyone that I was dating her. Since you didn’t hear from me, I have nothing to do with anything that is happening.

Both of you have been spotted together several times and you used her name in one of your songs?

I’m cool with Yvonne. Apart from the fact that I mentioned her name in my song, she is a wonderful person. She is one of the nicest, coolest people that I know; the same with Tonto Dikeh. They are two people I respect a lot. I appreciate their hard work and they are doing very well in their field.

What is the relationship between you, Yvonne and Tonto now?

Yvonne is my hommie, we are cool people even till now. Tonto is my padi, we are cool.

Who is the lady in Iyanya’s life?

Nobody. It’s not like there can’t be anybody but my job would not allow it. It’s hard to find someone that will be with you and actually take the pain, stand the rain. I feel like anyone I’ve tried to have a relationship with always says “no, I can’t”.

Can you date a celebrity?

I can date anybody but the thing about dating celebs is that it would most likely not last. The only way it may last is if they are not successful. But if they are both successful, when people see them together, they would focus on them. That alone has an effect on the relationship because they won’t be free.

Looking back at the year 2012, what are you thankful for?

I’m thankful for 2012, to everybody that helped me, everybody that said no to me because it only made me work harder.

Four Laws of Entreprenuerial Success – Alli John Idemudia

Anyone can be an entrepreneur *at least, theoretically and in disney dreamland*. This is because every individual has the innate ability to think and reason out ideas, albeit in varying degrees.

However, it is saddening to note that very few actually become entrepreneurs. Most are stuck at the theoretical or at the ‘ideas stage’ while some even venture out on their ideas but give up after a few hard times. To be a successful entreprenuer, that is, a person who identifies business opportunities and turns those opportunities into profit for himself and the society at large, is not an easy task as many have come to realise.

Realistically, as ‘not so easy’ as it seems, it is possible for each and every individual who is determined and follows the four basic laws which are:
Law of vision,
Passion,
Hardwork and
Patience.

These four laws form the basic essentials for any successful entrepreneurial effort.

Vision serves as the propelling force of any entrepreneurial dream. It entails the mental picture of the end target for the entrepreneur. This is the motivation every successful entrepreneur must continually possess and fall back on during the hard times.

Passion is the fuel that pushes the entrepreneur towards the foreseen end target. Passion is what keeps the entrepreneur believing when others doubt, hopeful when others drop out, and pressing on when others fail.

Hardwork and patience is the car that must be fueled by passion and which drives the entrepreneur towards his vision. Many entrepreneur wanna-bes strangely believe that once they start out, success is just round the corner.
However, the truth is that success is not and never can be overnight.
Success comes to those who stick to their vision and work hard at it until they xperience the light at the end of the dark dark tunnel.

Finally, giving up should NEVER be an option for any entrepreneur who desires sucess. The starting point alway looks rough and unattractive but embedded in that roughness is the seed for an attractive outcome. No sucessful business that you envy today started big; they all started small and paid the price for greatness.

Nigerian footballer Osaze Odemwingie who married his lover Sarah Fallon last year is currently in troubled waters.

As we speak, Osaze is going through a tough marital problem that is showing forth on his career front.

Insiders just disclosed to Society Now Magazine that the marriage of popular Nigerian international footballer, Osaze Odemwingie is troubled.
And the reason being bandied bothers on the lucre- but the effect is apparent.

Sources claimed family members in concert with some friends are of the conviction ‘marriage is having an adverse effect on his career’.

The West Brom Albion striker got married to his wife, Sarah Fallon on 26 May 2012- after two years of dating. Since then he has embraced behaviour that transformed his blossoming career downhill.

He engaged authorities of the nation’s football governing body- Nigerian Football Federation and national team coach in a manner that attracted wide spread condemnation and got him sidelined.

The former Locomotiv Moscow star went on to engage club authorities in similar manner, to the extent of single handedly trying to switch to another club. The move earned him wide spread jeers and ridicule.

It also forced him out of team play and reduced him to the status of “training material”.
Information made available to Society Now Magazine revealed promoters of the campaign ‘marriage is having an adverse effect on him’ have totalled all the incidents and believe their is something about the matrimony making him to behave out of line.

They have however proffer a solution- Osaze should have a rethink about the union or at least take a temporary break from the union. Digs by Society Now Magazine revealed the pressure for Osaze to tow the ‘take a break path’ is intense, and troubling the marriage.

But the footballer remains unshaken in his commitment to his wife and marital vows. Whether the couple will be able to withstand the family pressure or not in days to come remain to be seen.

Before he embraced downward spiral after his marriage – Odemwingie was a darling of football fans both in his country and at his club.

Are they trying to say inter-racial marriage is bad or what?

How are they sure his sudden change in habit is his wife’s fault?

BeautyNote:
If your brows are thin naturally, stay off tweezers. Just groom them.

TIP 4.

TIP 4:
If you have bushy brows,Tweeze them regularly, avoid Penciling brows heavily as they’ll just make your eyes heavier, giving you a tired, forlorn look!

SHOTS ON TARGET WITH KHOLAR: “Nigeria Gives Food Aid To America”.

Many will find this heading incredible and some might even see it as a joke or something from a movie trailer, but trust me, this is not something you will get to see on Africa Magic. And before you scream Olodo as my Surname, try give me some minute to prove a point.

First of all….. ( Hold that “Introduction” you are thinking of saying….), I’ll hit it on by saying that whichever way you choose to look at it, you will agree that it did happen. Though we are accustomed to seeing western nations give aids to poor countries, especially countries of the african continent, this singular event is hoping to turn the tables and challenge this norm. And though these largesee might not be courtesy of the Nigerian government, a Nigerian living in the united states single-handedly pulled this off.

This all played out on the nicki orish show aired on a lagos-based t.v station the penultimate week.

Many of you would believe that it is only in a poor country like Nigeria that you will find people living on the street, but believe me, this happens too in “God’s own” country.
This particular edition of the show was dedicated to showing the plight of people living in the street in downtown Los Angeles.
The anchor of the show, Nicki Orish, went through downtown los angeles and believe me, it was like Oshodi of blessed memory. The streets were strewn with homeless people with their beddings and blankets preparing to sleep. And as soon as the anchor was through with her “tour de los angeles” journey, it was time for the party proper.

She parked her car and opened the rear. And before i could say ASAT MEDIA, my American niggas and ‘nigurls’ had all lined-up like they were about to cast their vote in an election.

Chicken, bread and a can of a beverage drink was what was on the menu. And though the largesse didn’t go round, majority of them were fed that night and some were even coming back for more. (Oliver…… Oliver Twist……… Lebete, Labata….. *in @iamdbanj’s voice*)

The show was an eye-opener for me and i had to come to the conclusion that we live in a world of words and opposites and that no matter how prosperous a society is, some people would still be left behind.

EUROPA – CHELSEA VS RUBIN KAZAN PREVIEW

Chelsea will resume their quest to become the first British side to win all three major European club competitions when they host Russian hopefuls Rubin Kazan in their Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie on Thursday.

Last season’s Champions League triumph left the west Londoners with just Europa League honours missing from the club’s trophy cabinet, having already lifted the now-defunct Cup Winners’Cup on two occasions — 1970/71 and 1997/98.

Despite a forgettable Premier League campaign, Rafael Benitez’s maligned tenure at Stamford Bridge still has the Blues in the hunt for both domestic and European silverware after Chelsea despatched rivals Manchester United on Monday to progress to the last four of the FA Cup.

Chelsea will likely be without defensive duo of Ashley Cole (hamstring) and Gary Cahill (knee) for both legs of the clash.

However goalkeeper Petr Cech, who helped preserve the Blues’ 1-0 victory over United, insists the defending European champions will enter the fixture in a positive frame of mind.

“It’s always important to beat big teams for the confidence. We are not having such a fantastic season in terms of the league, but (the win over United) shows we can still beat the top teams and it gives us confidence to play another game on Thursday,” he said.

In Rubin, Chelsea face a side that has already eliminated holders Atletico Madrid and one that is unbeaten in five European away games.

Benitez’s charges though boast an imposing home record on the continental stage with an 11-game unbeaten streak of their own. They also own a perfect record against Russian oppositon with four wins from as many matches.

We’ll see how it pawns out today.
